Obesity in dogs is commonly associated with metabolic changes, such as dyslipidemia, which can predispose to cardiovascular diseases, pancreatitis, endocrine disorders, and others, compromising the quality and life expectancy of these animals. This report describes the case of an obese Dachshund with hypertriglyceridemia and hypercholesterolemia, treated at a veterinary school clinic, in Rio de Janeiro. The animal received supplementation with omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (EPA + DHA) for 30 days. Significant improvements in serum triglyceride and cholesterol levels were observed, with no adverse effects. Omega-3 has proven to be an effective therapeutic tool in managing obesity associated with dyslipidemia in dogs, reinforcing the importance of nutraceutical support in the treatment of these conditions.
